Sexual Assault Victims Deserve What They Get…

In the same week where Mark McInnes, the CEO of Australia’s oldest and most luxurious department store group, David Jones, was forced to resign amidst allegations of sexual harassment, comes the sobering news that many young Australians have no sympathy for the victims of sexual assault (see link, below). In fact, many think that women who get involved in group sex should be forced to live with the consequences, even if that includes having been sexually assaulted. Moreover, many young people think that a woman drunk or drug affected or wearing a tight skirt is fundamentally begging for it. Attitudes like that have no place in a civilised society and so, the Federal Government will tomorrow launch ‘The Line Campaign‘ website, to try and teach young people (and others) about what constitutes sexually abusive behaviour and attitudes and conversely, how to initiate and sustain appropriate, respectful relationships…
