Transgressing Straight Footballers in Tight Pants

Football, football, universal home of what the author of this article, Dan Neil (see link, below) calls ‘hypertrophic masculinity’, has yet again laid bare the stunning hypocrisy between a game (gridiron) that is played in the tightest tights, where players have this kinky maneuver of sticking their heads up other players’ arses and win, lose or draw (can you draw, search me?) the after-game ritual is always played out with a group of naked men in a hot tub or some such other aquatic device. That said, a TV-ad depicting two football loving men watching the game while making out on the couch, has been banned from the Super Bowl telecast. Dan Neil reckons it’s not so much the gay or the kissing, but the possibility that two ‘straight’ men might lose it and give into their carnal desires, in the midst of that most hypermasculine of games.
